Here's a link to a .pdf from Denon (dimensions are at the bottom of the second page). This is a very nice receiver: not High End, but it fits the bill for most users. It's a 90wpc 7.1 HDMI v1.3 receiver and includes DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD via bitstream, as well as multi-channel PCM audio processing. It will also convert 5.1 soundtracks to 7.1, if needed. It can be found for about $550 if you look around.

Thanks Joe,
But it is about the size of my current unit, and doors will not close on the thing my wife bought.....the story of my life. But will give it some thought, the unit looks tasty.

How good (and discrete) are you with a drill? Seriously, if size is really that much of an issue, it might be your only option. Since the hole/cut-out would be at the back of the "thing" your wife purchased, no one would see them or know about them (including your wife, unless you tell her). Shit, if she's forcing you to use this "thing", she should be willing to compromise and meet you halfway so you can at least make it usable.
Remember: measure twice, cut once and use the right tools and accessories for the job. It also helps if she's at work when you're doing this.
It looks like it just became one of he million woodworking projects hanging in the balance....
Unfortunately i have no excuses...Yes. initially I refused to make the cabinet for the gear under the TV, therefore she bought the damned thing...Now i have to hack up some dumb Italian's work, who had not enough brains to check on the standard sizes of components...And I do not have excuses...a shop full of woodworking tools and the skills make anything but a Windsor char...crap I was hoping to find a simpler solution :-)
