Have you had any issues with HDCP causing problems. I am looking at a Marantz SR5003 receiver to use as a pre/pro, HD codec decoder and HDMI input switcher. The Marantz OM goes out of it's way to state that your display must be HDCP compliant. I am using an HDMI to DVI-D cable from my BD player and HD cable box to my 6 year old Sony 60" RPTV with no problems. Don't want to have to send the Marantz back if I get it.

I did what you are proposing with my first plasma display. Now, I am using an HDMI-to-DVDd adapter with a DVI cable and a DVId-to-HDMI adapter now. The issues have to do with what is on the ends of the cable(s), not the cables. Can we assume your Sony is HDCP-compatible?

I poked around some more on the net and I think DVI-D capable displays like mine are HDCP compliant. I can watch HDTV cable programs from set top box set to 1080i (set top box does not have a 1080p seting) and I can watch 1080i or 1080p from BD player via the HDMI to DVI-D cable I have. Apparently the whole issue revolves around the fact that DVI-D or HDMI is a digital signal and the powers that be were worried about copying that signal onto DVD or whatever media. Will they never learn that if you can encrypt you can decipher? I saw the other day that BD copy guard has been hacked and bootleg BD's are on the streets.

You presumptions are reasonable but they are not definitive.

Either directly from the Blu-ray player or via an HDMI switcher. No issues (though possible issue with HDMI Switcher, it "died" while swapping out componenet but I haven't done any real troubleshooting.
