I have a Panasonic TH-50PX25 plasma that I bought circa 2005, and I'm wondering how well it holds up to today's offerings. I'm getting the itch to switch to something more up to date, but I don't want to make the jump if I don't have to. These things can get kinda pricey. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Please keep it, and report back on its reliability beyond 4 years!
I just bought a new 42-inch Panasonic plasma here in Germany, with a 2 year warranty, and wonder whether these things really last longer than that. I mean, the screen may be rated for 100,000 hours, but what about the power supply or the remote receiver?
My wife's TV, a Crown made in Japan in the 1980s, still has a good, if small, picture and there was no rational justification for replacing that :) But sitting back and watching The Bridges of Madison County from 12 feet away is a much more involving experience now!
If you sit close to the television, and you are interested in or have available high-quality HD content (specifically Blu-ray and 1080i OTA broadcasts), a newer 1080p television of that size will provide a noticeably more detailed picture. OTOH, if you sit back a ways, and/or only use DVD/cable/sat as your sources, you'd likely be wasting money on a more capable display.A current-gen plasma will also offer better contrast and somewhat improved black level; however, your television provides better black level than pretty much any LCD panel, even the most recent versions.
If you decide to get rid of it, and you live close to me, I'll take it off your hands :-)
