I believe many people have the original speakers that came with these Box units. Has anyone upgraded their speakers for these? I have two units, one Insignia 500 watts, and a Sony 600 watt. I upgraded the speakers to Infinity and Cambridge SoundWorks. What a difference this makes! For newbies to HTPC and surround sound this is the most bang for the buck.

Mercy, I didn't want an argue fest. I have a wish list for a better Amp, and interconnects. But, upgrade of my speakers five years ago was an amazing difference. I wondered if anyone had done this? Is Yamaha or Pioneer an upgrade from my Sony HT-DDW670 600 watt? Suggestions? Alan

it depends on what you want to connect to the ht.I saw yours all I know is its the basic ht with 100 watts.with up grades you get more inputs out puts on the back.plus more sound features.

If you call them patch cords or RCA cables instead of "interconnects" your desire for "better" ones will go away.
Speakers are always the weakest link in any stereo. Get the best speaks you can.

Jack, Brian wrote weakest, not the only link. Of course, there are some superb speakers that are also inefficient that require substantial amps to drive them. But the general case is that the speaker is a critical transduction point where electrical energy is converted to acoustic energy. Converting energy from the mechanical deviations in the grooves of a record to electrical energy is another such transduction process, as is reading a disc with a laser. Passing an electrical signal through a system is less demanding than converting it to another medium. I think that may have been the point of Brian's observation. Thus, one might expect the biggest bang for the buck by attending first to the transduction process.

I understand that, but Brian has a tendency to speak in absolutes.
Speakers are not ALWAYS the weakest link.
If your source is crap, excellent speakers will not make it better.

Just speaking in generalities, with 100% as perfect let's look at some numbers:
CD Players
$50 gives 50%
$500 gives 90%
$2000 gives 98%
Pre/Amp
$50 gives 20%
$500 gives 40%
$2,000 gives 80%
$5,000 gives 90%
$10,000 gives 95%
Speakers
$50 gives 5%
$500 gives 25%
$2,000 gives 50%
$5,000 gives 65%
$10,000 gives 75%
$20,000 gives 85%
$50,000 gives 90%
As you can see, I meant that speakers require quite a bit more cash and care to select than the other components.
