My Oppo blue ray player analog output sounds great. Much better than my old Golden Theater sounded (or Philips 963SA). What pre/pro would I need to get at what cost to be as good as the Oppo? Onkyo Integra, Outlaw, Emotive, or much higher budget like Anthem? I have limited budget and will not be making a change soon I think, just wondering. I now use my Oppo as preamp to my rear stereo Anthem amp and powered sub. The only thing a processor would add is DD for TV which is not critical since they never seem to do a good job of that on TV anyway.
Follow Ups:
Use of the volume control on the Oppo significantly detracts from audio quality and resolution. Get the Integra/Onkyo and connect to the Oppo with HDMI. The new Anthem D2v is a big step up but may not be warranted depending on the rest of your system.

I have listened and not heard much difference between 100% and lower volume levels. Is it just a matter of it removing dynamic range or something? I do have 2 channels going to a CJ preamp for the front channels and can use that volume control for stereo listening but have not noted a difference yet. Even though I read that Oppo should sound best at 100%. I think that I have a pretty high resolution system now w/ Magnepan 3.3s, etc.
The Oppo (and most players) attenuate volume by dropping data so that you end up with about a 1bit loss for every 6dB of attenuation. If you cannot hear it, OK.

The DAC's the Oppo uses have a 24-bit control buffer. That leaves 8 bits resolution for volume control before you lose information.
It's the same principle that Wadia used many years ago in their CD-player. There is a white paper from Wadia in internet which explains the principle.
Oppo themselves states that volumecontrol should not be lowered below 80% before degradation starts. I consider it might be somewhat more ..... ;)
Anyhow, if you do not need to use it, keep it at 100%.
