If you have an HD ready set and your cable company requires that you rent an HD set top box to get HDTV, then the box should provide the necessary tuner. But you need to check how your HD ready TV inputs HD signals. Most HD ready sets use the older DVI connectors not HDMI which might send you off in search for a cord with the right connector. MCM electronics for one still carries a lot of DVI cords and HDMI to DVI cords if that is what you need
if thats what your talking about.some older tvs didnt have built in hd tuners,I guess you could by the tuner for it.

No guessing required. If you use cable or satellite you use the HD tuner in their boxes regardless of what tuner, if any, is in the TV.

With televisions Full HD means a HD tuner is included. HD Ready means the monitor can display HD signals provided from an external HD tuner.
