I'm setting up my htpc, using the mac mini for DVD playback into the Samsung.
What res. should the mac mini be set to and, overscan or not?
PC or HDMI input?

Your HTPC should be set to the native resolution of your flat panel.Use HDMI/DVI input/output if it has it.If you used Windows 7 it would automatically set the the resolution to the optimum settings. IMHO a Mac Mini/OSX isn't the greatest solution for an HTPC. But hey use what you got..enjoy.
Hi Gmood1,
Might you elaborate a bit on the native resolution. The Samsung does 1080p and the mini will display whatever I tell it to, that is, what is offered in the display setting. I do know, DVD's are 480i.
This is my first attempt at mating up a computer with a TV. I've been around pc's since their inception.

Hi Mitch the native resolution is 1080 for your panel. The native resolution is the single fixed resolution your panel is designed to display. All newer panels are 1080. So you would set your gfx or graphics card to output 1080. Even though your DVDs are 480i they will be up-converted by the panel or the video card to 1080i.
That's simple enough. I've noticed the "info" button will show the resolution currently being displayed on the screen, for that input.
Lastly, can you explain the overscan thing, and should it be used. It does make a difference.
Thanks,
Mitch
Hey Mitch this link will break it down for you better than I can. From what I gather if your panel is recognized as a LCD PC monitor, over scan is not an issue, as in my case. You shouldn't need it with the modern plasmas or LCDs if the signal is digital driven. The link explains more.

Yes, it's recognized as an lcd monitor. Also, the HDMI#1 is designed for PC DVI to HDMI input. I'll try the D-sub as well and see what results that provides.
SOoooo many settings on this panel, for tuning and fine tuning.
Thanks again for the info.
Hey Mitch, long time no talk. Forgot your username, but now I remember when seeing it... Can you contact me via email from this site?? As you can tell I'm still into the HT, more than ever actually, audio system still the same as before except new amps and a newish TT...
Can't help on the Q. :)
