Following a Best Buy email, I saw a 50" Kuro for $1999
(gasp - got the 50" Elite in '04 for not much under 10k list)
that listed a 60Hz refresh rate.
The Panny VIERA 58" there lists a 600Hz refresh rate.
Typo?
Are we talking about the same thing?
Panasonic's web page for the model doesn't really say, but it does
say it includes "600Hz Sub-field Drive"!!
Damn, is a Mr. Scott clone supplied to support this puppy?

The only honest comparison for a non professional is to audition both sets calibrated side by side. You won't see this comparison in any big box store. The refresh rate race is a band-aid for LCD's motion issues. If an LCD is the only display in your house you may not even be bothered by motion blur but it's there.
The 600Hz sub-field drive refers to how often the pixels are "pulsed" (turned on and off in a second). If the display is working at 60Hz -- showing you 60 frames in a second -- each pixel will be turned on and off 10 times for each frame you are shown.
The 2-digit numbers (60Hz, 72Hz, 96Hz, etc) refer to the number of frames (individual pictures, though some of those pictures will be the same ones shown multiple times) the display shows you in a second.
Have you ever used anti-lock brakes on a car? If you've "pushed" them into working, you may have felt the pulsations (the anti-lock mechanism pulses many times a second) as the car slows down. This is analogous to the sub-field drive on a display.
Definitely not limited to 60Hz, but I don't remember what each Kuro model can do...I'm sure you can find it.
The model I have only goes up to 72Hz (3x24Hz, for 24fps film mode). 120Hz is nice because it's 2x60Hz and 5x24Hz, as is any multiple of 120Hz but this is more common with LCDs.
A high refresh rate is not nearly as important for plasma as for LCD; in LCDs it helps reduce motion artifacts. But it wouldn't hurt for plasmas either, though 600Hz seems awfully unnecessarily high.
