i am a newbie with regard to tv-video. i just bought a panasonic 50g15 plasma tv. i would like to 'download' movies via netflix. my thought is to buy a pansonic blue ray player dmp 60 or 80? can these player handle netflix ? i prefer to keep the tv and the player from the same brand. is the process to get movies and play them from netflix easy?
also, can anyone recommend a very easy to use calibration disc?
if the disc does not work out for me could someone suggest a calibrator?
i am in central new jersey --cranford -- exit 137 of the gsp

You will need to upgrade your router if you don't already have an N series.
I recently set a customer up with the newer ugly Samsung and this router:

The netflix stream is very good as well as youtube and pandora through the Plu Ray player.
Below is a link to a thread on AVS Forum about calibration. The second page of the thread contains a link from Chris Wiggles to information about using DVE (Digital Video Essentials) to calibrate a display. There exists DVE for DVD and DVE for Blu-ray: be sure to get the Blu-ray version of DVE called DVE: HD Basics . It goes for about $16 at Amazon, but many other places stock the disc. Please be aware that unless you have calibration equipment and know how to use it, you'll only be able to use the User Menu controls to make changes to your display. This will get you in the ballpark, but it will not be to the extent of what a professional or knowledgeable enthusiast will be able to achieve by going into the Service Menu (that last 10% or so of what the display is really capable of).
If you go this route and it doesn't work for you (though I don't know why it wouldn't) or you decide that you would like to have a calibrator come out to work on your display, just click the GO button next to the Display Calibration forum line at the top left of the page located in the link below. That will get you directly to the Display Calibration forum at AVS and there is plenty of info about calibrators -- ones who are in your area and ones who will come to your area. The usual cost is $300 - $500 for a display calibration from a professional calibrator.
The disc that came with my Oppo player (can also be bought separately) seems pretty decent, and was easier to use then the older Avia test disc I also have.
Netflix has Blue Ray movies which you can rent. You have to upgrade your membership from standard to Blue Ray to get them. It's about $2 a month extra.
Netflix also has "Watch Instantly" movies which can be played on your computer monitor or on your TV through a Roku Netflix Streamer. There are no "Watch Instantly" movies available on Blue Ray, however some of them are HD.
The Netflix home page has a tab that's something like "Watch on Your TV." That's where the information on the Roku is.
Good luck.
Hook-up an ethernet cable to your plasma TV. Connect to Viera cast. At the bottom left of the screen is Amazon Video On Demand, (VOD). Some of the TV shows are new and free - You can try it out. Panasonic Blu-ray players have the same Viera Cast feature. To get Netflix you would probably need a Samsung, (or a Sony?) blu-ray player.
Netflix by mail is very easy. They send you an envelop with a disc that you use to return the disc after viewing. In addition they also provide movies online via a PS3 or Xbox. Neat stuff.
Our Blu-ray player is a Sony PS3-80. The output of the PS3 and DirecTV HD-DVR go via HDMI to a DVDO Edge video processor, thence via HDMI to our projector. 1080p on a 100" screen is a delight.
