I would be surprised if BDs were ever be the same (list) price as DVDs. That would pretty much defeat the purpose.
So what exactly is your point?
If you think prices are too high now, feel free to wait years or decades until they meet your approval. You don't appear to be interested in looking for lower prices.

Hi Jack,Yes, I will wait till the BD price is right for me. In the end Blu-ray will be the mainstream technology and will replace the DVD. It is just a disc and they call it Blu-ray.

So basically, you just came here to whine.

Maybe, maybe not. That's not a sure thing at this point. I'm not convinced that the masses care enough about quality to switch over to Blu-ray.
Time will tell.

Hi Jack,The VHS video tape has also expired so if the price differential between DVD and Blu-ray becomes smaller then more people will buy Blu-ray which will lower the price of BD even more. The hardware is already adjusted for this new technology but time will tell how quickly prices will come down.

Irrelevant

That's true, but bear in mind, that the studios don't want the price of BD to drop too far, that would defeat the whole purpose.

Blu-ray is marketing driven. Prices come down because of the short live cycle of the product. It is just a consumer product.Johan

In marketing, they call it skimming the market. Nowadays the new kid on the block is 3D Blu-ray. Therefore, every time when prices come down they will come up with something new to keep up their profits and extended the live cycle, which also requires new hardware. Next time it will probably holographic.Johan
