I am looking for a quality, affordable preamp/processor. The best I could come up with is the Integra DHC-40.2 for about $1K. Less expensive units, like the Emotiva UMC-1 have unresolved issues. The Onkyo TX-NR807 Receiver, which alledgedly has the same processor as the Integra DHC-40.1, can be had for about $600; I could use it as a pre/pro because it has preamp outs, but I hate the idea of having to buy its mediocre amps whose only function would be to produce heat.
Any other preamp/processors I am not aware of? TIA!!

I ended up getting an Integra DHC-40.2 for $920 plus tax from a local dealer. It is fantastic! I particularly like the ease of the Audissey room equalization set up. Very clean, detailed, and transparent sound. Dialogue is clear and separate from background music and ambient sounds. Sounds panning across are followed easily. Sounds from left, right, and rear are precisely located. I viewed Letters from Iwo Jima. There is a scene in which Japanese soldiers are hiding in caves while American planes bomb the island. You are inside the cave and the explosions above you are very realistic! A very immersive sound processor.
I wanted to suggest Outlaw Audio, but at the moment they don't have a pre/pro on the market. Apparently they are working on one which will have all the newfangled stuff like HDMI 1.4 and 3D compatibility.
Some Pioneer receivers have preamp outs.
I bet the upcoming Marantz AV7005 pre-pro will be available in the U.S. for just about $1k street.Edit: I thought the price I had was for in Canada, which is usually much higher than the U.S. price. So the list is US$1500, which won't equate to less than $1k street for a new product.
