All Oppo's that I'm aware of also have stereo analog RCA outputs. You could always hook up the stereo analog outs from the Oppo to a CD or AUX input on the receiver and, depending on the quality of the receiver's D/A conversion circuitry, you might get better sound out of the Oppo's analog outputs.

OK, BUT... what if both hdmi and rca are connected, would tha rca I/Os override the hdmi's audio, allowing for best audio while the hdmi provides video?
It'll work just fine. I don't have HDMI on my audio set-up but still run HDMI out to my HDTV and both work fine at the same time.
Notice that the previous poster said that analog from the Oppo "might" be better. That is true, it might, but it also might not. In lieu of having all your system info here, you might just try both and not make presumptions.
Frankly, I prefer HDMI in both my systems.
