They're raising my costs 15% so they can offer a new $7.95 'streaming only' option.
Here's a thought - let's have the new customers pay $9.95 and not HAVE YOUR OLD CUSTOMERS SUBSIDIZE SOMEONE ELSE'S VIEWING OPTIONS????
This is a horses ass stunt to pull on their existing client base.
If they had just raised prices I wouldn't care. But it's obvious we are subsidizing the new 'stream only' option.

Nexflix has the vision to see the future. It is Streaming and Downloading, not hard media.
The great expense to Netflix is 2-way postage and duplicating millions of DVDs for their depots all over the USA. I've never understood how they do for the price.
Streaming is MUCH cheaper. If anything streaming is subsidizing Nexflix's DVDs by mail service. Nexflix see the "handwriting-on-the-wall."
Netflix now represents itself as primarily a streaming service, . . ., with DVDs by mail (for a while!) If you ask them (I have) they'll tell you that 2011 is dedicated to improving the Streaming service with more films and more Streaming source locations.
If you love Netflix as I do, you'd better gear-up for Streaming (and upgrade your Internet service if you want HD. I have and I love it.

I dropped Netflix a while back myself. Between the scratched DVDs, the mandatory FBI warnings and trailers, the streamed movies that re-buffered every 10 minutes and the price increase it was just causing more aggravation than anything else.
I love having the DVD for a week or so because I like to watch the movie "straight" (as one would get with 'streaming', or see at the movies),
and then I like to watch the film again with the director's comments, with the actors comments, and see the outtakes, and "how it was made" and all the other "bonus" things you get with the disk that you don't get otherwise.
i suppose streaming is great for those who are only interested in pornographic videos ...
i mean, if you only want to see the film once -- it's not worth your time.
I think it's worth extra. Not that I am going to pay extra.
I am going to go from 6 at a time to 5 at a time.
Now I can streams shows and movies to my computer while the wife
watches what she wants.
Try it, maybe you'll like it.

I've never had a disc rental or streaming service yet. But I do understand what they are doing. It is definitely cheaper for them to stream it vs. mail it. They don't have to worry about losses from lost discs. They don't need to track down discs or keep track of where they are. Shipping costs I'm sure over time and associated expenses (i.e. labor), I'm sure have also gone up.

I just got into streaming with the Roku XDS. The writing is on the wall that DVD rental is on borrowed time.

As I understand the bandwidth limitations, Bly-ray is still not practical for online streaming. So if you want 1080p, the disc comes in the mail. I still think Netflix has a nice service even at the increased price.

The increase was inevitable, I'm OK with it. It's still the best bang for the buck home entertainment available.
Baba-Booey to you all!
1)No extra fee for Blu-Ray movies
2)5 free in-store exchanges (handy if you don't want to watch the 3 movies that you put in the queue a year ago and now are stuck over the weekend)
3)Game rental included in the priceIf you will wave a Netflix streaming in my face - wake me up when they can stream 1080p movies in full bandwidth and internet connection to support said bandwidth is affordable.

So you take a pass on something that's very good because it's not perfect? This may be an example of perfection being an enemy of the good.
no, I'm saying I will start using online streaming when it will match what's already available via BluRay.
