My great 245 pound Sony CRT from 1998 just went on the blink. Sound but no pix. Screen is sort of dark orange/blue with orange horizontal lines. Cable box checks out. Can't get a tech who will offer a "maybe" on the phone. They all want to come to my house for$$. Of course I can't bring it to them it weighs 245 lbs. Can anyone on the forum venture a "forget it" or" that's an easy fix" so I can buy a plasma that I can lift or fix the Sony and get on with my life?
Thanks
Bob

Get a Panasonic plasma, and you will wonder why you didn't toss it years ago. There are several Panasonic 50" plasmas available for less than $1k, and even the cheapest 720 set will outperform the old dinosaur by a large margin.
Gentlemen, thanks for sharing your wisdom. Thanks to a local company known as Junkman
the Sony is history. To be replaced by a Panasonic plasma. Either the 1080P 42" Viera or
the 720P 50" Viera. Costco has both priced at a hair under $700.
Unless you're sitting 6 feet or less from the screen, 42" 1080p might be a waste. I had one for a while at about 7 feet distance and eventually went to a 50". From the standpoint of color gamut 1080p in a 42" does make a difference, but much of the detail at that size you won't notice.

Seriously, the Sony has been trying to politely tell you for the last few years that you need to move on. You haven't gotten the message so it has spoken to you in words that you can't misunderstand.
It's now time to
You got 13 years from a TV that'll probably cost more to fix than a plasma will to buy. And then you'd still have a 13 year old relic. I just went through exactly the same with my 35" Sony last year, and bought a Samsung 50" plasma. Recycle time IMO.
