Hello!
I purchased a BDP-93 Oppo Blu-ray player from Rapallo AV to replace my Oppo DV-983H as I will be purchasing a new Panasonic 65 inch VT30 TV as soon as they become available in New Zealand.
The DV-983 was connected to my existing 10 year old 50 inch Plasma by component cables and so I thought that it would be a simple job to hook up the new Oppo with an HD-Fury2 between the Oppo HDMI #1 outlet and thePanasonic component input, but it didn't work. Just no picture at all. Even the Oppo BDP-93 Component outlet wouldn't drive the Panasonic Plasma over the same cables that the Oppo DV-983 would and that was after the primary out put was tried in both Analogue and both HDMI outlets.
Rather strange. I tried again with much shorter component leads this time 3 sets of1.8 meter leads. The HD Fury conversion still wouldn't work from HDMI output and the only way I could get thew component to work was to connect the "Green" cable first which would establish a black and white picture and then connect the Pb Pr cables. It would then work until I turned the Oppo or Panasonic off, but when I turned them back on again it would not pass a signal untill I had gone through the above reconnection procedure.
I connected the Oppo DV-983 back in the system again and it worked straight off. So did a Marantz DV8300 and aPioneer DV410.
To add to the mystery I then connected the Oppo BDP-93 to a Samsung 40inch 1080p LCD TV. HDMI #1 to the HDMI TV input and the component to the component input on the LCD and both input worked perfectly. Even when I connected Oppo HDMI output#2 to the HDfury 2 and then to the LCD component input to test it,it worked perfectly.
I tested the above many time before writing it down to insure I did not make a mistake and tested each of the 3 component leads by hooking them one at a time into the Oppo composite output and the Panasonic Plasma composite input. Each lead was then put into it's correct component socket.
I'm at a loss to understand why the Oppo DBP-93 wouldn't drive the Panasonic in Component input when 3 other Disc players will, nor to why the Oppo wouldn't drive the HDFury 2 on the Panasonic when it will on the Samsung LED.
If any of you have any suggestions they would be appreciated. Otherwise I will just have to wait until my 65 inch VT30 arrives.
Thank you

Can't help, but must be some kind of sync problem, since the sync signal is on the green (typically, it's "standard") and you have to hook it up first to get a pic. With the Oppo connected to the display via component, will you get a pic if you turn the Oppo on first? How about if you start the Oppo playing a disc then turn on the TV? (Just as tests, inconvenient for regular use I know.)[Edit: deleted some stuff. Here's exactly what I was thinking of from Oppo at the *] Note that the next gen of BDPs (anybody's, legal ones anyway) most likely won't put out ANY BD video on component. Note that component output for ANY BD since day one could be disabled by the disc author, but very few were. I don't think these last two things are your problem now, just mentioning them as points of interest for the future of playing BD via component, from the perspective of both the new software and new hardware.
* When the “Primary Output” Setup Menu item in the “Video Setup” section is set to “HDMI” (see page 49 for details), the component video connection will not output video when playing a Blu-ray Disc with 1080p 24Hz content, or will only output video with a low resolution (480i/576i)
when playing a DVD. This is not a malfunction. You must set “Primary Output” to “Component” in order to properly use the component video connection.

What Panasonic plasma model are you using right now? What exact input are you using on the Panasonic?

Thanks guys for your reply
The 10 year old Panasonic plasma is a Th50PHW5. it is a multi standard set input up to 1080i & 24p or so it proclaims on the label.
Oppo sent me a firm ware update which I installed meant to make the HDCP handshake more liberal. Installed it made no difference to the connection with the HD Fury 2..
Discovered one thing and that is; if you put a DVD in, either NTSC or PAL and play it, over the component connection it works and one can access the menue while the disc is playing but as soon as you stop the disc all access is gone and there is no logo on the screen. Push play and the picture comes back. Same thing happens with a blu-ray. Rather strange that while the disc is in play mode the signal is being passed to the old Panasonic from the 93 Oppo. But not when disc stopped.
But the 93 Oppo on our Samsung LCD or put another DVD player on the Panasonic every thing is normal.
Your help sure is appreciated
Thanks.
Winston,
In reviewing the hdfury II @ hdfury.com according to the website the HDFury II is HDMI 1.1/1.2 compatable. I have a HD Fury III that is HDMI 1.3 compatable and works fine with a Oppo 83SE to an older Pioneer Elite PRO510 on VGA or Component. So it looks like there is a compatability problem between the HDFury II and you new oppo 93.
One reason I got the HDFURY III is that I first tried using the component video outputs from the Oppo 83se and found that the picture was not very good. It is a whole lot better using hdmi to the fury III.
