I started dabbling into 'vintage' tv recently. I realized when I watched movies on hd and sd, I actually rather started enjoying certain movies on sd rather than hd.It had 'atmospheree', 'mood', and 'mystery'. Kinda looking at a girl's face on foggy moonlight, instead of bright sunlight.
Am I getting senile, or anyone else experiencing the same feeling.
Besides, one can get these rather obscure vintage high end designer tv for very reasonable price

Don't know. The plasmas I see, I can watch. However, they have higher energy consumption. I've been sitting on the fence. I can see watching the really big plasma screens, 50 inch and above!!
But why bother?? I guess I am not a film person. I would love the biggest plasma in a dark room. Anyone want to donate a room??
Well, I don't know about experiencing the same feeling but I still have and watch 19" and 26" CRTs and have a 13" B&W CRT that uses tubes and still works great.
I remember seeing a Proton 27" TV crt sd, about 7 years ago, and blown away how vibrant the color was and sharp the picture was without 'blooming' in close and this was just OTA!
...and I finally got a studio grade Proton TV that was used in Jeopardy for a song, this was supposed to have been the best TV/Monitor in late 70's and early 80's, meaning I would have paid about a grand back then.
...and yes, the color has a 'magic' even today.
..or some other iconic design.
Yes, brionvega is one of them I am looking for, but two strikes against them are one, their screens too small, and two, a lot of people are chasing after them, so price won't be cheap.
Too small? I dunno: 480i video looks pretty good on a small screen, and besides, I think some of the most interesting CRT TV designs were smaller than 13". If I actually want to watch a movie, I do have a 32" 1080P set, and "Cassablanca" looks amazing in 1080p.

I agree.

I was never a fan of 'Casablanca'.
Big, useless, horribly out of date, and quite ugly. Even the best ones of their day are completely outclassed by even the cheapest ones of today. We tolerated the huge square boxes and allowed them to dominate the room because there really wasn't a better solution at the time.
Baba-Booey to you all!
You must love VHS tape. :-)

Actually, there is one movie I really like that is only available in vhs.
Every time there is a change to a newer or better medium, some movies/material gets lost due to not being carried over. This is of course, true with music as well.

... I still have two 34” flat widescreen CRTs in my kid’s bedrooms. My wife has a 27” 4:3 CRT in her workout room but I have given the other CRTs I had away. We have 3 Plasma TVs 42”, 55” & 65”.
I have no use or desire to watch small screen CRT television ever again.
YMMV
