It actually has better blacks making the picture as a whole pop out and look better, according to them. Anyways, amazing that an LCD TV can be about as good as the best Plasma.
Not to mention that LED's are far lower in power, and that's good.
We'll have to agree to disagree about global warming until the next global cooling scare comes along

You need to pay attention to the specs. Todays plasma sets use far less energy than sets of the past. For instance, look at the Sharp LC46LE830U (a 46"). It uses 180W when powered on. The Panasonic TC-P50ST30 (50") uses 106W when on, despite being a larger picture. Sonys use less power than the Sharp models, but consumption is still about the same as the plasmas. The days of the plasma TV using a lot of power and giving off a lot of heat has been over for a while. You can thank California for forcing the efficiency rating of todays TVs.
Amazing? It's about time. My three plasmas are relatively new (Panasonic Viera) and I hope that they are around until "about as good" is a thing of the past.

told electrical use was about $24/year, my electric bill jumped $25 in one month, and we only had it part of the month, and didn't watch it everyday, or for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time. The Directv DVR is also on, maybe that uses more elec than the old one did, also Roth Tube Ipod Dock/Int Amp for the Monitor Audio Bookshelf Speakers, which also uses some juice but isn't always turned on. Will continue to monitor PGE Bills!!!
Love the Picture! No LCD/ LED at any cost was as good.
My electric hasn't increased at all that I can tell. I have three of Viera sets and two are used everyday. I never turn off my amps or preamp and six HD-DVRs are on constantly. It may be getting lost in the overall usage. I'm all for green usage and, when the time comes, will consider LED backlit LCD. If it's better I will go with it. If not, and Plasma is still available, I will accept being less green.
