Can a cable company DVR be used as a stand-alone recorder?

Just curious.
If you hooked up a dvr box to an antenna, can you record like you would on a vcr, manually setting the record functions?

No, it's easier than that. If you have cable with the menu system, you just look up a show and point to the red spot and hit OK. It tapes just fine. The only problem with it is it doesn't recognize a change in the start time of a show.

... At least I can here in Australia.

We can record two separate channels to hard-drive while watching a third.

I don�t know if you can anywhere else in the world nor do I know where you live.
