I've got a Stereo setup (Rowland Synergy IIi/Rowland 625) connected to my OppoBD-93. The problems I have is that I'll have to turn up the volume on my preamp almost maximum before being able discern clearly converations whereas when the background sound is much louder.
What I understood was that I'm missing a centre channel whereby much of the vocals are coming (stand corrected here). I'm looking for advise if I could connect a powered speaker like something from Audioengine would help my problem. Thanks for looking and any advise.
BTW, I have already configured the Oppo processor to use only front Left/Right speakers only.
Follow Ups:
If you did use a powered center you'd have to adjust volume separately for the preamp and speaker which would be a pain.
You might try turning the dynamic control on, not sure what Oppo calls this feature but it limits the dynamic range in order to make things easier to hear and so the sound doesn't have to be turned up so much at night.
Also, are you using the left/right analog outputs opposed to the multichannel analog? As mentioned, if everything is properly set up for two channel listening I wouldn't think what you describe should be happening to your extent.
If you have properly configured the Oppo to use only the L/R speakers (did you try both LT/RT and Stereo for the downmix mode?) and you have chosen a 2channel/stereo audio track, there will be nothing on the center channel output.Of course, if you re-configure it to have a center channel output you will have to fiddle with the level/volume controls in the Oppo to obtain a suitable balance.

Guys, thanks very much for your input. I've managed to sort myself out and configured the Oppo player for 2 channels. Great player and I'm enjoying BluRay on my new Samsung 8 series LED through my Rowland amps and MBL speakers now.
