I have a ten year old Aiwa AV-X100 surround sound receiver. I know it is outdated and I wish I could replace it but I am broke right now. And plus it still sounds good except for a bad hum when I have more than one component hooked up to it no matter what or where. I no it is some sort of ground loop but I have no idea where ,any thoughts? Getting tired of switching cables.
Follow Ups:
What cables are you using? I had a ground noise and discovered it was caused by directional cables that were only grounded at one end, and these were expensive cables. You might try a different brand to see what happens. On the other end of the spectrum sometimes cheezy cables not being made well can allow ground noise.
Have you tried using other inputs to see if the same issue arises?
I've heard that cable TV leads are often responsible for ground loops. You could try disconnecting that (or any other cable that comes from mysterious other places) and see if that helps. Otherwise, be systematic and disconnect one thing after another. Or use something that interrupts the ground pin of an AC plug (like a two-conductor extension cord), and try each component in turn.
If it's the receiver, begin visiting your local thrift (charity) stores regularly. A/V receivers (sometimes even with early versions of HDMI) are showing up, usually under $50. (LCD TVs too; saw a 32" Panasonic at the Salvation Army for $170.)
I have a bit of hum myself. I'll check it out.

Perhaps you could give it some voice lessons.
