I have an XBOX 360 and Wii, but I was thinking of buying a seperate box rather than having these game systems (that I do not use much) laying around. Also I wonder how good they are for Netflix streaming anyway.
What is a good device for Netflix streaming? I am hoping for good picture but really care about good sound.
Maybe the game systems are better than I imagine I do not know...
Any info or direction appreciated.
thanks
Phil

I have a PS3 hooked up in the living room. It's used for lots of things, one of them being Netflix streaming -- mostly by my kids. They have watched numerous movies and tons of Disney/Nickelodeon shows via Netflix/PS3 and I can't say I've ever seen a hickup with the streaming. In the last month, my wife has watched at least a season's worth of one show on her Dell mini-laptop over wireless (in the kitchen and in the bedroom) and hasn't had any problems.
As for the video, it's not quite DVD quality but pretty close. The audio quality is equal to (and may even be) Dolby Digital stereo.
Here's the setup:
12M cable broadband -> Linksys cable modem -> Linksys wireless b/g router -> Cisco range extender -> ethernet cable -> PS3

Netflix has a monthly fee of $8 for unlimited streaming (that's what we have). As for an XBOX annual fee, what's that for? Does Microsoft charge a fee for their online membership? I have a PSN (Playstation Network) account -- which is needed for accessing Netflix via the PS3 -- but there is no fee at all.
And audio from Netflix is Dolby Digital 2.0 (there is no lossless audio available).
I know someone with a U-verse 2WIRE box from AT&T. She doesn't have any problems with her wireless connection.
Some Netflix devices (e.g., Roku) will do Dolby Digital+ 5.1 as well as 1080p video. Many Netflix movies are 2.0 audio, but they with matrixed surround (so you play them back with your receiver set to Dolby ProLogic).
I know the Wii is free and now you say the PS3 is free too but I do think the XBOX costs to use online thru Microsoft.
thanks for the info about the wireless connection.
