How do you like it?
I'm tired of waiting for plasma and lcd to work out their bugs. I don't think they ever will.
And I like DLP but as one person said, 'Mitsubishi hasn't made a good tv in 15 years'. I have two friends with Mits. They both had to be replaced.
So. Projectors. Do you have one? Like it? Think it's a PITA?
I don't care about the dark room thing, I never watch movies in the day.

I've had a Sony VPL-HS20 since 2004,still going strong after all these years.Only drawback is that it is only 1080I,but still has a great picture.
I only have room on the wall for a 126" picture before the speakers get in the way.
For those that say you can't use the wall as a screen,I disagree. I painted my wall a light grey(Smooth Pebble from Lowes)which gives a better contrast than a white screen.
A friend has a $3200 "acousticaly transparent" screen, and I am not impressed. I also hate to think what would happen if one of his grandkids wipes his jelly or chocolate fingers on it...
I haven't kept up on the current projectors,so I can't reccommend any one in particular, but I can recommend getting a projector if you want a big screen.
Oh,and get big speakers,too.

I do not know the latest projectors (8350 is 2 years old), but Jamestown screens are still excellent for the money if you do not mind a bit of work assembling it.
Home theatre with fixed screen is different than TV. The picture is more natural. I do not like surround sound. People complain about sound of opera on surround systems (for example Blu-ray I Puritani/Metropolitan) - on my high resolution stereo it sounds very good.
If you hang projector from the ceiling do not buy a noisy projector. Make sure the screen is a right size for your watching distance.
From the photos it appears as though you're very serious about acoustic treatment, but doesn't all that equipment between you mains affect imaging, especially depth of soundstage? I realize it's not uncommon to place a rack between the speakers, but I've wondered about the wisdom of doing so. Before installation of a projection screen, we had a flat screen monitor between the mains; removing that monitor improved depth of soundstage in our room. A monitor may present a greater (more uniform) acoustic impediment than a rack of equipment.

The picture does not show it but the horns are very long so the racks are not between the mains, they are set back 3 feet behind the drivers and horn mouths. The racks are not flat surface like TV screen - they partly act as a diffusor. There are 2 broad bandwidth absorbing panels behind the racks. The screen is almost transparent acoustically and there are panels behind it.
An old X1 PJ shooting to a 110" screen. It's not HD but not too bad. I'm like hcman but even more so in that video quality is nowhere near as important to me as audio (music portion only of system used often, video portion rarely).
Nothing like a massive screen for movies. One day I'll flip to HD.
As for plasma "working out the bugs" I see none. LCD sure. But my 50" Samsung HD plasma upstairs gives great picture quality (even when it was in the bright sunroom).

Along with a 120 inch Elite screen. I pre-wired a room in my new home for the projector, ceiling outlet and conduit for hdmi. Turns out I didn't need the conduit as this projector comes with wireless hdmi that works flawlessly.
I may not be as critical of video as I am of audio but this set-up exceeds my expectations as well as every ones who has seen it.
I've already quit telling friends I have it to avoid too many "guests" during football season.
The cost? About $2000 for the projector and screen. Best bargain in electronic entertainment I've ever made. I have no reservations recommending this system.
...I'm tired of waiting for plasma and lcd to work out their bugs...
I'm not sure what bugs you are referring to. I love my Panasonic plasma, and it has been working great for about 5 years now. I still haven't warmed to projectors. Aside from having a large image, the color and saturation is still far from what I get from a plasma set. Whenever I watch a movie on a projector, I cant help but keep thinking how much better it would look at home. I wish they were better, because I would love to have a 100 inch or so image, but I cant live with the current limitations.
