Check out monoprice.com for 2x1 and 3x1 Pigtail HDMI passive (non-powered) auto-switching models. Both are under $15. Unless you need the iScan to do something specific, this may be the better route.

Thanks, Joe. My setup had been DirecTV HD-DVR to iScan Duo to Cary 11a to Sony VPL projecting onto a 100" screen, all HDMI; an Oppo BDP-95 was connected to the other HDMI input of the Cary. This setup worked fine. But then I decided to connect a Sony 5400ES to the Cary HDMI input the Oppo was using, and thought to use the iScan as an HDMI switch by connecting the Oppo to one of its HDMI inputs. Now I get neither video nor audio from either source, although the light on the iScan indicates it's receiving signals and the projector displays HDMI-1 or HDMI-2 as I switch between the sources. Pressing the menu button on the iScan remote displays nothing.
The Oppo certainly doesn't need a separate video processor and the DirecTV HD-DVR may not either, so the inexpensive passive switch looks to be a promising solution.

Disconnect the oppo and the SONY players from the iScan. With the iScan connected to the Cary and the Cary connected to the projector (all via HDMI), see if you can get the menu from the iScan to display on the screen. If not, connect the iScan to the Cary's other HDMI input and try it again.
If you don't see the menu in either setup, either the iScan or the Cary may have had a setting changed or are having a problem. You might also try unplugging and plugging back in all connections, just in case. I'm sure you know that electronics are stupid like that.
Silly question, but does the SONY's HDMI output send video (other than a black signal) or just audio? Doesn't the oppo have a second HDMI output that's dedicated to audio (and thus may only have a black signal present)?
I'll try your suggestions tomorrow. The Sony XA 5400ES is a CD/SACD player without video. I had intended to replace it with the Oppo BDP-95, because the 95 has a superb analog section. The Oppo does have an audio only HDMI output, but I have been using its balanced analog stereo and unbalanced analog 7.1 outputs with the Cary inputs set to bypass. DSD is streamed to the Oppo DACs and sent through the Cary without further processing. I may change that so 7.1 is HDMI. The reason for using analog was that the Cary treats 88.3 kHz LPCM as DSD and provides no bass management. But the mains I use now extend to 20 Hz, so bass management is no longer an issue for music. I bought the Cary for its audio quality even though I knew it was buggy. My setup is used for both music and HT. The Cary outputs to Proceed HPA 2 & 3 amps (500 watts per channel into 4 ohms) that drive KEF Reference 107/2 mains and Ref 102 center and surrounds.

Connect the iScan directly to the projector and see what happens with regard to video. See video, then check on the Cary. Don't, then check on the iScan.
In retrospect, unless I'm missing something or a setting was changed, what you initially tried to do (iScan as a switcher) should have worked fine.
Joe, I'm really getting frustrated.
I disconnected the HD-DVR and Oppo, and was able to display the iScan menu with the projector. I made sure input was set to auto (seeks the active source) and the output set to AV1. I plugged the HD-DVR in; both video and audio reappeared. I plugged the Oppo in; both video and audio disappeared with either source. I again unplugged both the HD-DVR and Oppo, but was unable to bring up the menu on the screen. I then connected the HD-DVR directly to the Cary; the result was audio but no video. I connected the Oppo directly to the Cary; the result was neither audio nor video. I've ordered one of the little switches to which you kindly provided a link, but if a direct connection doesn't work neither will that.

Dan Wemmer at Cary suggested the HDCP handshake with long HDMI cable might be the problem and that I should consider an HDMI extender. As a test of the cable, Dan suggested a short link to a monitor. Oppo support suggested resets for the Oppo 95. I tried a short cable from the iScan Duo to a monitor and the resets Oppo suggested. The result was A/V from both the HD-DVR and BDP-95; the iScan Duo switched between the active inputs. I then reconnected the output of the iScan Duo to the ceiling mounted projector. The result was no A/V from either the HD-DVR or BDP-95. A Lumagen HDMI extender is scheduled to be delivered on the 30th.

I made the resets Oppo suggested, but it wasn't until I installed the Lumagen HDMI extender as Dan Wemmer of Cary had suggested that video through the iSan Duo from both the DD-DVR and Oppo 95 came up on the projector. Thanks Dan.
