I'm using an Oppo 83 for DVD/BluRay discs and running the audio out through my Rega DAC, and I find that the volume is extremely low. I need to turn up the preamp volume to over twice the volume that I have set for my CD player, for instance, and it still sounds quiet. Is this just the player, or could it be a setting that can be altered? Thanks in advance,
JB Coleman

That could well be the culprit.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions--I'll be fiddling with the Oppo later this weekend to see what can be done.

Should I assume you are using 2 channels? Is the Oppo set for 2 channels for the digital out? Otherwise, you may just be getting the fronts of 5.1.
Just a thought.

Yes, I'm running it through the stereo output, and it's still weirdly quiet. I suppose it's just the unit's normal volume setting through stereo output. Thanks,

I'm running PCM out to my TV's DAC, (which is reasonably good) and going analog to my amp. I'm not having issues with volume at all. The caveat being that mine is mostly for video.

PS. The volume issue you are having is more likely due to your DAC, since that is an analog issue more than digital.
