This is kind of an after thought since my set is supposed to arrive Thursday. Few if any of the newer TVs have an analog out. I have extra DACs around the house, but I don't know if it will work. I don't really want to buy a reciever. :-(

Both of my kids have televisions with optical outputs. They're configurable: Off, Dolby Digital and PCM (the latter is 2-channel).
Even if your television doesn't have a 2-channel option for optical, monoprice sells an HDMI de-embedder that has a 5.1/2.0 switch. Since it can strip out the audio from the HDMI stream and output via optical or coax, it's an option for under $45 (or less if you can find one used).
.
My guess is yes, maybe, some of the time.
I would like to know for certain, though I suspect that stereo output IS compatible with stereo DACs, however, if you get a channel with 5.1 output, then it won't be compatible.
I also wonder how that works with new material, whether the newer bluray standards are used at all for TV outs which would then necessitate buying a NEW receiver for many of us technology holdovers.
Yes, if it's an audio output. Mine does.
I use it as an input into a Paradigm Millenia One CT system with good results.
I can just run it to my DAC, and then to my amp. I have no interest in multichannel. The worst case scenario(besides buying a receiver) would be to use the analog from my BD player, for movies and the TV's speakers for the few things I watch from broadcasts.
