In Reply to: RE: Anyone using an Oppo 105 as a pre-amp? posted by mbnx01 on January 09, 2014 at 11:30:06
The Oppo 105 does many of the functions expected of a processor such as speaker configuration and bass management. It also permits switching among a number of digital inputs, but has no analog input. I use my 105 in a bypass mode in which stereo from the Oppo goes to an analog preamp that it shares with a phono stage and Sony 5400ES. Surround channels from the Oppo go directly to amps, SW to an SMS-1 bass manager. Video from the Oppo goes directly to a projector and monitor. Inputs to the Oppo are DirecTV HD-DVR via HDMI and a Mac Mini via asynchronous USB. If it were not for the phono stage and 5400ES, there would be no need for a preamp.

Yes. Using the bp-105's passive volume attenuator offers significant improvement by significantly lowering distortions typically caused by an attenuator's signal loss.Audio is significantly more pristine, detailed, and even delicate and since I use 500+ wpc amps, the dynamics are actually more natural but still very dynamic.
It seems I like using the word significant here.
