Hi!
Already 2 times my screen had some strange lines on it. First time 2 very thin horizontal lines on the bottom of the screen. Luckily at that time Samsung replaced under warranty.
Recently I was away for a week and when I came home and switched on the TV it had 2 more than 1" wide vertical lines on it's screen plus many thin lines.
Wondering what the cause can be. Here it's the rainy season now with occasional thunder storms. I always unplug my system and TV from power when not in use.
Can lightening damage a screen even when it is unplugged from power? A friend told me that during my absence we had heavy thunderstorms in my area. Or are the quality of samsung panels not that good?
Samsung service here offered me around 50% of the price of what I paid for the TV 3 years ago to replace the panel. No thanks. Will get a new one bot probably not a Samsung anymore.
Anyone had similar problems with Samsung or brand TV ?
regards
Michael

Did you disconnect the signal cable from the TV? By signal cable I mean TV antenna lead, Satellite cable from the dish, or if you have cable TV, disconnect the incoming provider's cable.
Any of these signal providers if not properly earth grounded can damage the TV in the event of a lightning storm. (By earth grounded I mean the cable grounding block bonded, connected, to the main grounding system of your home. In the event of a very close lightning strike the only sure protection is to disconnect the signal from the TV.
I find it very odd that 2 televisions would develop the same problem. I would suggest 2 things. First research on the net to see if this is a problem with this model. If your search reveals nothing I would advise an electrician come to your home and check your home wiring and grounding. The cable/Satellite installer may have not grounded your Coax cable as well. good luck with the problem.
Well, if you still have the TV plugged into the cable TV line/decoder/antenna/etc. (not sure what you have, as you didn't say), then certainly it can still be damaged.
I just got through diagnosing a lightening struck Panasonic Plasma for a friend- prognosis is not good for it- it took the strike right up the HDMI input from the cable box and still fried EVERY HDMI input on the set...
If Samsung is offering you 50% towards another set, I'd personally go for it!
