I've been looking forever for a dvd of a British sf movie called 'Quartermass and the Pit' (released in the U.S. as 'Five Million Years to Earth).
I found a place in Vermont who sold me a copy. But the disc doesn't look like ANY dvd I've ever seen. It looks kind of purple, like a blank disc you buy at Staples to burn.
The movie doesn't play properly. It is not smooth. For example if someone is walking across a room you see it sort of 'skip' like it's missing frames. Gave me a migraine in about ten minutes and I had to stop watching.
So what's up with this purple disc? It's on the left, a regular disc is on the right.

Follow Ups:
It is one of my favorite sci-fi movies, too. Too bad it is not available here in the U.S. on a major studio label.
The TCM website indicates it will be shown on April 8 and May 14. You can DVR the film or record it on DVD if you are so equipped.
Most likely a copy/bootleg.
I have a copy at home, but I don't know if it is a Region 1 disc. I'll have to check when I get home.
