From what I have been able to learn there are different regions for dvd playback. That I get. There is also the actual NTSC, SECAM, and PAL formatting differences. If I find an early dvp S7000 that has the region free dip switch, does this mean I can see PAL, region 2 dvd's on this player? Are all region 2 dvds PAL formatted? I haven't been clear about this from what I have read online. I would be getting it primarily as a cd player, but want to see some PAL formatted dvds on this. Thanks Norm
Follow Ups:
I bought what I was told was one of the first two DVP-S7000 players brought into the United States. It was Sony's very first DVD model. An AV dealer in San Francisco took delivery the day I telephoned. If memory serves, it was April 1997. I remember it cost me $900 plus shipping.
I was not aware until today that it had a switch (internal?) to select Region 2.
My S7000 has been sitting in a closet for about 10 years. I am tempted to do a little research to locate the switch, then purchase a Region 2 DVD and try it out.
Will accommodate both PAL and NTSC discs. And I believe you can switch the Region code as needed via the remote. A pox on the studios for ever introducing the damn Region coding, they have made life difficult for every video viewing person on the planet!!
