Is it it worth $25 in your opinion?

Who dumps stuff like that? :) It's a good player, for $25 or a fair bit more.

I had one too once, but decided to keep the 980 since it's more flexible. Depending to what and how you're hooking the 981 up, unlike the 980, it doesn't have component video outputs and also it converts DSD to PCM with HDMI (likely not a prob, as it's almost certainly going to happen somewhere in any chain).

Plug it in, turn it on, the power indicator light should shine blue, not reddish purple. Also, check the drawer, make sure it opens and shuts. I had to send 2 back, each out of warranty, with a bad power supply. If it passes those two tests, it'll probably work and serve you well. Good luck

Yes, definitely. It was a bargain at full price, which I think was $150.
Good picture for a DVD player. It's region free too.
