Here is what I want to do;I am learning some new guitar riffs off of videos on Youtube.
I want to download them, and play them, but I need a good program.
I prefer Open Source for obvious reasons, but if there is a good commercial program that will do the job, I will consider it. Since many of them include "bloatware", etc, unless I can opt-out of such, I'm not interested. Any suggestions?

As mentioned, the Firefox browser add-on extensions are your best choice. There is no bloatware in FireFox add-ons. There are hundreds of add-on extensions available for downloading YouTube videos. You can try or install as many as you want. I have tested many and use three.
convert2mp3.net YouTube2MP3 Converter let you either download just the mp3 (audio) or the mp4 (video).

Flash Video Downloader - YouTube HD Download [4K] will let you choose from every resolution available and every type available including formats for Mobile.

FlashGot works on almost every website (including YouTube) whereas the 2 above are YouTube specific.

I would also install the Adblock Plus extension which will prevent the timed ads from running inside YouTube videos.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/downthemall/hello, I like to download youtube videos and make DVDs of them to pass around to friends. I use this plugin, which you can pick the particular movie file you want upon playing the video and it downloads it.
also use videolan vlc http://www.videolan.org/index.html to play back, beware of other vlc sites, some are spoofs, only videolan.org is the official open source site for vlc.
