Thanks for the reply, mrdavis842. I think audio output is the problem. When I go into audio/advanced audio settings and set the TV speakers to off there is no option to change audio output. There are three "HDMI in" settings I can change but no audio output setting options. Strange.

From the manual it automatically outputs Dolby Digital for digital channels (ATSC) which is probably a problem for your DACs.

DIGITAL AUDIO OUT terminal:
You can enjoy your Home theater by connecting a Dolby Digital (5.1 channel) decoder and "Multi Channel" amplifier to the
DIGITALAUDIO OUT terminals.
( Caution )
® Depending on your DVD player and DVD-Audio software the copyright protection function may operate and disable optical
output.
® When an ATSC channel is selected, the output from the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT jack will be Dolby Digital. When an NTSC
channel is selected, the output will be PCM.
® When playing a movie on SD Card Movie player, when the sound has been recorded in Dolby Digital, the output from the
DIGITAL AUDIO OUT terminal will be Dolby Digital. When the sound is recorded in other formats, the output will be PCM.

    The 34X Premium should work nicely. When I switched my TV over to my stereo speakers it made a huge difference, the sound was so much better. I didn't realize how much bass even commercials had in them! Enjoy.

      The 34X Premium is in and it's working like a charm. It's a nice little unit; solid metal body of good build nice jacks and a nifty wall wart power supply. It looks slick in black with sharp blue graphics. I'm still like a young boy when it comes to new toys. Rick Steves, Rudy Maxa and Motorweek have never sounded better.

  Thank you, mrdavis842, you've figured it out. Don't know how I missed that in my manual. Looks like I won't be enjoying my speakers with the tv (except while watching DVD/BDs) unless I get an a/v receiver.
