A good friend is looking for a sound bar for his TV and I've done some googling but thought to ask here. He's looking to spend about $600-$700 at the most. They want something that includes a wireless sub and that will improve sound quality. They plan to use this in a large room (20 x 20 approximately) which I think may be an issue. They would like a simple set up to use with their Vizio TV. They want to stay away from a full on 5.1 system (or the like). Too complicated for them. A simple good quality system that has a good track record. What are some good options to check out?
Regards to the group

Fairly large room for a sound bar but it's probably still better than the TV.
Atlantic Technology has a sound bar close to that budget, I forgot the model. No sub but it really doesn't need one. It's not as sleek as some but it sounds great.
I personally would stay away from TV brand sound bars, go with speaker companies.
Next look at JBL
I got the Jamo Torsten when they first came out about 4 years ago. It's been great for TV, not good for music or concerts.
I bought my son a JBL from Best Buy for his 40" Samsung TV. It is the JBLBAR21BLKAM, and it was about $260. Works very well for his needs. He uses the included optical cable from the TV to the sound bar.
Vizio has their own brand of sound bars and subs. I suspect they work well enough. I'm not a fan one way or another.
I did purchase a Vizio sound bar to go with a Vizio TV in a vacation home. Works Ok.
STAYING WITHIN BRAND to my mind is a big advantage because the components talk nice to one another AND you can also frequently do away with an additional remote. Fewer remotes is better.
