Since there aren't too many channels of 4K programming with direct TV, I rarely access them. The other day I tried but got a disclaimer on the screen saying my Sony 4K TV doesn't support 4K programming. I have the appropriate hardware from DTV so I called them to ask what's up. They told me it's an unresolved software issue with the receiver. WTF is that? Anyone else deal with DTV and with this issue?

This happens to me often. I have a 4K HDMI 2 tv and most of the time when I go to 104, I get 4k fine. Every once in a while for no reason I get the dreaded notice. When I go I menu to preferred resolutions, the 4K is no longer checked. I check it, go back out and 4K works again. Have no idea why it changes!

They are pretty much useless. Hasn't changed much since 1999 when I first installed it.

DTV has been twice in the last year or 2.
Once for a bad cable, and a different one than I had thought, and for a problem with the Genie Box turning itself off.
The technicians were knowledgeable and got the job done.
Additionally, last time they reset my Resolution Prefs to get 1080i on every station.
I had fooled around with them, and didn't know how to set it.
Way better when he got done with it.
New HDMI cable from DH Labs didn't hurt either!
It's not cheap, but I'm very happy with DTV/Genie.
I also have Coax out to Mac D 150 Dac for TV sound, excellent.
And, NO hum.

We have their newest DVR. We have a situation where the same show appears on two different stations, one in Hi def and the other in "stretched" SD.
We want to record a series, the entire season, We go set the recording on the HD channel (hit red button once), it works. The yellow icon shows
When we set it to record the entire series (hit red button twice), the yellow icon goes to the SD channel!
This only happens when a show is in two channels. If it's only on one channel, no problem.
Call support and they say it doesn't happen. They say it's fixed on the latest release. When a tech was here, he said the new box is buggy.
I'm surprised the Tech didn't tell you.
Also be sure that All Episodes are set to record, not just the Default 5.
There is a setting for that too.
I record first run, entire series but that was not the issue.
The issue was that I would set the recording on channel 10 (CBS Hi Def) and the unit would change it to channel 3 (CBS Standard Def).
But, the good news is that it's been corrected. They apparently applied an update.
