When I went out shopping for a new HDTV,the retailers hooked up the different TVs with dedicated programming. You can't compare apples to apples.
That being said,I prefer the picture on the Sonys.More lifelike and better shading and action.
You get what you pay for.Might be in for quite a treat, mine is an xbr 850D.
Hope it was helpful.

thanks for the note. I wound up buying the Sony xb900f after I got a somewhat similar comparison at a different BestBuy. I agree. My last Sony is 20 years old and running strong. As I am not exactly an early adopter, I'd rather spend for a long-term investment.
How do you like your XBR900F?
I am close to getting one soon.

So far, great. We hesitated to spend twice as much as the TCL 6 series or the Sony 850. The 900 presents a much brighter picture than the others, and because it will be in our living room, style and finish was important to my wife.
The TCL was a bit ragged on the edges.
I must add that we bought an early Sony maybe 22 years ago, and it has worked flawlessly.
Those were the factors affecting our decision.
Good luck figuring out what's best for you.
Who makes TCL ? I never heard of them.
It is a Chinese company.
