I recently got this 60" plasma tv for free. The problem is when you turn it on, it gives out what I believe is a hi voltage shorting/humming sound for several seconds, then goes back to the red idle light. I've traced the sound to one board, but that might not be it. I used to work as an electronics tech, so I feel comfortable working on it.
So far, this is what I've done.
Checked fuses, none-blown.
d/l the owners and service manuals.
The previous owner had this problem twice, he said that in both times, the shutoff would at first take a while, then get shorter & shorter until it was unusable. First time, a tech told him he replaced a cap, second time he gave the set to me.
PS, I know I can buy a newer set, I like to fix things, and love Plasma and CRT picture quality.

I've got a similar vintage Samsung plasma and it's a gorgeous picture and likely the same panels.
Check on Youtube or maybe you did. I found some on where to check voltages on different boards. You might find a 'good' board on eBay if you're daring. Or you might find there are no parts.

Inspect all of the electrolytics. This is the most common problem on flat panel TVs. Any that are bulging should be replaced.
