Is there anything new out there that will allow me to stream Disney+ from my cell to "a box" that has both HDMI and digital out?
My room is 2CH only. I use an HDMI switcher (4 inputs) for flipping between the cable box and Blue Ray player, just need a way to play Disney+
Has to have digital out to go into my pre/DAC
I know from my earlier post that Roku used to make one, but nothing current.
Thoughts?
Follow Ups:
I am assuming you can't just use the Disney+ TV app on one of the mentioned devices. In either case it the same two boxes that you would use for the solution.
I would get an HDMI switcher with an optical output, An example is linked. Then you just need to get the signal from the phone to the switcher.
To do this, add a box that supports the wireless 'casting' protocol from your phone. The iPhone uses AirPlay or AirPlay 2 for casting. I would buy an Apple TV for this.
For Android phones, I think you would use the Miracast or Chromecast casting protocol. This is likely to be supported on Roku, Fire TV stick, Chromecast with Google TV, NVidia Shield, etc.
I was hoping for a one box solution, but it seems there is no such beast. Appreciated.
What resolution are you looking for and do you have a iPhone or Android phone?
You might be able to achieve a one box solution with one of the following:
An old Apple TV with HDMI, an optical output and 1080p resolution.
An old Roku with HDMI, an optical output and 1080p resolution.
An old Mac mini with HDMI, and a dual purpose audio analog/optical output jack.
HD PJ, so as good as possible.
Android phone.
The older Roku was recommended when I asked this a while back. This is not first priority in my life, but figured by now there'd be something new.
I'll probably end up with a solution like you posted, thanks.
