Our living room is around 17 1/2', and I sit at pretty much that full distance. If I could, there'd be an 80" to replace the 65" in there. When we bought the 65", we moved the 50" to our bedroom. It's a perfect size for that room for our tastes. IOW, if your viewing room is small, I get why you'd want smaller...

Small by most standards. I can enjoy both, though size does matter. I can stare at the 42 inch screen, but I have to move my head to scan the 50 inch. It's extra work, but for a movie, the effect is immersive and beneficial. Sometimes, I just like the zombie effect of the smaller screen, that I don't have to move at all to get it all in.
