Home Films/DVD Asylum

Movies from comedy to drama to your favorite Hollyweird Star.

Why not? Two words for you.

Bambi. Old Yeller.

(Spoilers below for those who haven't seen the movie.)

Death in movies is hardly new territory.

The ending is well handled. We don't actually see the accident. Death is something that children will eventually face in real life, if not with a companion or peer, then with a grandparent or family friend. Death is a part of life and BTT shows through its protagonist how one learns to deal with and move on from tragedy - guilt, sorrow, pain, renewal - it's a great life lesson. The subject's handled well and sensitively, in as upbeat a manner as one can realistically do in a movie. It shouldn't be a strain for most kids.

I think the greater danger with BTT is that some clueless adult will rent it after seeing the trailer with the giants and fantasy elements and think they're getting a pure fairy tale/fanatsy.

OTOH, if parents are that clueless that they would purchase a DVD for their young children without any research, I don't have much sympathy for them. PG is about right.
