Like you all have brought up, for casual enthusiasts, availability/exposure, the type of software/titles, and price are the determining points. Sony has its presence via own PS3. HD-DVD a consortium with mfg and the Paramounts.

I see ads already for regular DVD players that upconverts to 1080. Same time all TV's keeping their price points by going to 1080. Over the air analog transmission to discontinue by mandate. Will next gen disc be able to pull it off or face current status of SACD/DVD-A's due to the younger crowd getting their music online and the ever increasing of online bandwith? Or launching such was a decision made to encounter such threat already posed to the music industry.

Still, flat panel TV and hi-def stream has that magic that is really satisfying for a videophile righ now.
