For source-to-source and source-to-monitor connections, both ends of the cable are male -- regardless of whether it's a DVI-DVI, DVI-HDMI, HDMI-DVI or HDMI-HDMI connection.

The source's physical connector will be female and the monitor's physical connector will be female, therefore both connectors on the cable will be male.
