How Do You [yes, YOU] Record Anything?

OK. My DVR broke this week. Panasonic ES15, after 6 years of light use.

So, I went out looking for another DVR. There aren't any. Just a few utlra low end Toshiba & Magnovox units out there in Walmart land. I looked them up, and user complaints about early failure and poor quality were overwhelming.

Strange. No DVR's. So, I went and asked around; questions such as "What do you record shows on?", and "Say, how about those Bears?". I was met with what ranged from blank stares to people looking at me as if I had 3 heads. A few folks muttered "Oh, just Tivo", or 'Dude. Like I just download to my laptop, man".

The problem's that I don't have cable, I don't watch that much TV, so I certainly won't be paying for a Tivo subsciption. And, as for computer downloads, I don't watch movies and TV programs on a laptop, or a cell phone.

It wasn't that long ago that everyone owned a VCR. I just want to record some RV shows off the air when I'm not home. No big deal. Anyone know how that can done...today, in 2012?
