I have a Mitsub 55" diamond vision for a TV, I was looking at the new DVD5910 from denon, they claim to have a great scalar built but how does that help me? Im using component video into a Lexicon MC8b and then out to the Mitsub, would the scalar help??

I guess one of the first questions would be, does the 5910 upscale over the component video connections or just via DVI (like my 5900)?

Denon is a major electronics manufacturer and a member of the DVD Forum (which is, for all intents and purposes, run by the Hollywood studios).

is NOT in the loop? So the Scaling capability in the 5910 doesnt matter anyway...

I believe you are correct. The scaling only takes place on the DVI connection (maybe HDMI too). On my 5900 which has DVI, it scales to 720p and 1080i. If I use component video from my Denon, I let my plasma TV/monitor do the scaling.

Go directly to the display and bypass the Lexicon. Any unnecessary electronics in the signal path -- audio or video -- can only degrade the signal. Quality should never take a backseat to convenience, unless quality is not a priority.Your display probably does best with a 1080i signal. The scaler in most DVD players that scale are usually better than their display scaler counter-parts. Not always, but more often than not. If you use an outboard scaler (which does deinterlacing as well), chances are the image will be better than what the Mitsubishi is capable of doing on its own.
The DVD-5910 uses Terranex's Realta chip to do deinterlacing and DVDO's scaling algorithm to upscale DVDs to 1080i.

what is the native resolution of your TV.....ED? HD?.... The built-in scaler on the 5900 series (5900 or 5910) is a really good one.... What matters here is what your TV will/won't accept.I use an external scaler for my 5900 because the combination of player and my Panny Plasma makes 'macroblocking' a real issue...so i need to bypass the internal scaler and use an external de-interlacer and scaler (DVDO iScan HD, in my case)... The 5910 is supposed to be devoid of this problem so you could use the built in scaler to get the picture 'size' and aspec 'correct' for your TV. The DVI output from the 5900 was VERY good, i can expect the 5910 to be at least as good (should be better, though).
