There are just as many morons in each field. Maybe the DVD was authored so that just pressing PLAY on the player won't get you to the movie. I have several DVDs like that.

I assume that is probably true. But these machines are no longer first generation, and I would think that hardware manufacturers would include a start button on the unit knowing this situation probably exists. My parents purchased a cheap Zenith combo player for my son, which is only slightly newer that my Toshiba, that does not have this problem. How a unit that carried a suggested retail price of $1,200.00 when I purchased it could not have that ability is beyond me.I posted this because I assume that many people like myself never gave playability without the remote a thought when we made the purchase. Believe me, it is frustrating. I would urge potential purchasers to consider this when they buy their machine, because at the rate players are discontinued, obtaining a new remote short of an expensive universal may be difficult when the player is discontinued.
