if i can't find a great deal.costco would be the only place to buy it, because of return policy.
after reading all the reviews, the ax100 is the most adjustable and bright picture .
Cheapest I've found is about $1400 inc a very high $65 shipping

$1,400 does not include a lamp!
When you add the lamp, it comes to $1700.
Then it is not a such a great deal anymore.

and search on the model that interests you. There you will find reviews and links to dealer sites that give you street prices from various dealers for each model. I find this site a lot more useful in making a projector decision than the AVS forum is. The reviews are better, too, as they are done by professionals not individual owners generally biased toward whatever they just bought.

Both very nice 720p units. There is an on-line place that claims that they will send you a new HD1000U for $830 +50 shipping.

List price is $999.99, the cheapest 720p DLP projector available. A comparable 1080p projector would cost 3 times as much. But don't let the "cheap" fool you. The Optoma HD70 has gotten great reviews, expecially for value vs. performance.I just got one at Best Buy for $880 with a 12% off coupon. Can't beat that.

720p for $995
You can't discuss pricing relative to retailers on avsforum, but as far as I've seen listing "please advise a good PJ for $1000 LIST price" is more than acceptable.
Take a look here at the dates of the postings. The video asylum could almost be eliminated from this site due to its inactivity. Not being negative about AA, I love it here. It's just more audio oriented than video, so video related postings are few and far between.
The guys over on avsforum, where I went to get recommendations to buy my (now pretty old) X1 PJ, are video crazy.
