Since the thread got buried... To be sure, The Chaser IS a strong film, but full of gratuitous violence. You say it is part of the plot - I agree, but the degree of its presence is most certainly gratuitous. Where five seconds would be enough to support the plot, it goes on for minutes.
This is not a reflection on the film - it is what it is, and the film does manage to affect you deeply. This is simply the comment on your comment.
Be it as it may, I don't think The Chaser is in any way superior to I Saw the Devil. To me they represented two very different types of "writing". If The Devil is a fine novel, The Chaser is more like a dishwasher owners' manual. There is just so much less art in the Devil, art that oozes from its every scene.
This is silly argument, anyway. Both films do have plenty to offer, and both are too shocking for many people's consumption... very strong drinks, if you will... not for everyone, but bound to make some people very happy.

'Bedeviled' is superior.
Go ahead, spin it. This isn't your local film reviewer, nor is it the audience figures. These are knowledgeable film guys. The guys who write film books. I suppose, in this climate of leveling down, they could be called, "elitist." You may wish to amuse yourself and read a few reviews of each film by these fellows. It would take too much time and effort for me to "review" a piece of garbage like I S T D......
You always lie to try for some kind of childish victory.

which narrows it down to actual critics (leaving out such luminaries as Anton Bitel from "Little White Lies").
Stupidity is NOT a victimless crime.

The vengeance trilogy is also crap.
One can watch them, for whatever reasons, fully understanding he is watching crap - we all do sometimes.

...the 'writing' you say, is somewhat similar to 'Chaser.'
in fact I was surprised I had seen it. Gave it 2 Netflix stars.

especially done on a filthy floor. "I saw . ." had its forms of redemption all through the film as the protagonist would let him live only to punish him once again for what he had done.

Curly even bent the chisel a few times. Chisel hits; no big deal!
ET
could fit through them.

You might want to look up the word "objective". Both plots are horribly ridiculous, in keeping with the genre cliches.

...is something truly believable.
I already mentioned, both films have tremendous number of holes, that come with the territory. I don't think you can make a case one is less silly in that regard. To me the holes in a film like that don't matter - one doesn't watch a slasher for realism. But what does matter is the question of whether these B movies still have something to offer. In any department.
The Chaser has nothing in that regard, as far as I see. The Devil has strong artistic touch... therefore it wins this ridiculous competition.

ridiculous premise from the get-go and it goes WAY downhill after that. It could work as "camp," but it's too hideously violent.
despite the fact you liked "The Chaser" better.
The holes in the plot are in your brain.

If one needs to take stands to have a character of ones own I think I regard the use of prolonged violence evidence of a lack of worthwhile substance in the remainder of the writing.. I don't think that;s any remarkable insight either but It is normally for me a turn off and not by any means because I am squeamish.
