I remembered "The Canadian Caper" from that era, yet I was unaware of most of the details provided in the movie. Apparently Canada's part in the rescue was downplayed in the movie but I believe since this was based on the memoirs of the American CIA agent it wasn't an intentional oversight. Still, the viewer never loses sight of the Canadian Ambassador's key role from beginning to end. The only thing left out was his escape from Iran, which was puzzling to say the least....

Me too. To me most interesting thing was historical perspective on Iran /US and how it developed over the time. You absolutely can't blame Iranians for wanting the Nukes...
Saw it Fri. nite. It's good but not best picture material from where I sit.
I enjoyed it -- it was better than I would have imagined. Surprisingly, I thought Affleck did a fine job with the directing. His ACTING on the other hand was comatose. I don't think his expressionless face budged at any point. That wig he wore was a bit much, but I guess he needed it to carry the film for him.
He didn't seem to think the film was accurate in most respects.

Everytime someone is trying to get away there will be at least one locked door, to assist them and the keeper of the key, to that door, will be the slowest reacting individual, especially when called upon to find said key.
If events had unfolded as tightly as they did at the airport (which wasn't the case, per Ken Taylor's interview), most would not have gotten away. But the assumption was that the audience wasn't mature enough to appreciate things unfolding as they actually did. End result; "best" picture.
...talking about the movie and escape. He said Tony Mendez was only in Iran for a day and a half. And that the CIA's part in the escape was very overdone in the movie. In fact, he said Canada did about 90% of what it took, and the CIA about 10%.

How many people believe that Oliver Stone movies are accurate depictions of historical events. Somewhere Goebbels is laughing.

"I'd like to own a squadron of tanks"
been fascinating.
It is drama.
No suspense, no drama.
and or the military were laughably over the top. A better scriptwriter was needed for the last 10 minutes of the final act. That you, the ultimate critic, don't realize this, is mind boggling.

"I'd like to own a squadron of tanks"
a film. It's strictly by the numbers, yet it succeeds largely, I think, by Affleck's calm portrayal and that it is a "true" story.
which were good) but felt the ending, as in the cars chasing the plane detracted and, was unnecessary. BTW, I may have exaggerated a wee bit when I said the car chase "ruined" the movie.
I agree with you about Affleck's performance. I look forward to appreciating it again when the rental is available.
As for this year's crop, based on the 5 nominated best pictures I saw, I felt they were all about ***&1/2 out of ****. Argo my least fav of the five (Django, ZDT, Lincoln, BotSW, Argo)

"I'd like to own a squadron of tanks"
Not the movies best moment but it certainly didn't kill it for me.
Stupidity is NOT a victimless crime.
fine and very suspenseful tale. It would be akin to Bigelow having Bin Laden pick up an AK and barricade himself in his room and fight the Seals for 10 minutes til some Rambo heroics by a Seal took him down. Like I said, JMHO, YMMV, yada yada yada...
