Claims I'll lose "resolution" (or even signal) because I will need extra DVI/HDMI adapters and will be (trying to feed) 1080p signal instead of 720p signal. I already have an HDMI to DVI adapter on the source player end of DVI cable and was planning on adding the DVI to HDMI adapter on the other end when I replace the aging 720p FP.
Of course, he has just the "quality" 50 ft cable to replace it with for a "nominal fee" when I buy the new FP....
So how far does this peg the BS meter ?

What I'll probably do is buy the DVI/HDMI adapter and buy another HDMI cable (or two if the adapter fails) so I won't have to use an HDMI switcher.
You can get a good HDMI cable from Blue Jeans Cable, made in the USA by Belden. Blue Jeans claims that their cable will transmit the signal up to 125 feet without loss and without needing a booster.
You may get lucky with the 50 ft cable DVI or HDMI, but there is a chance you'll need an HDMI amplifier to push 1080P down the line. Mono price carries those as well.
Th other option is an amplified HDMI cable, not cheap by a long shot though!
Agree, 50' is very borderline to get sparkle-free 1080p even with a thicker-gauge cable. I would ask Monoprice, they usually have the answer. One thing that is different is you put the HDMI "repeater" (it's not so much a booster amp, per se) at the far end of a cable section. Then extend the HDMI cable past that to your display. Problem is, you won't know if you'll need the repeater after 30' or 40' or whatever, Monoprice will know.
I guess if they sell the 50' cables then *some* devices are good with them, but many people who use long cables without a repeater are using a 720p projector and that is a fair bit less fussy than 1080p. Plus other even less-demanding apps. If it was mine, I'd not expect to go much past 30' without regenerating the HDMI signals, 10m (~33') is the farthest I've gone without one. I would not invest further $$ into DVI stuff, and I'd remove any I had if/when possible, it is just another potential source of problems (HDMI is fine supplying those on its own).

You won't know until you actually test it, but I wouldn't use adapters because there is signal loss associated with them and, at 50ft, you need all the quality signal you can get.
Get a 50ft HDMI cable from monoprice.com and you should be good to go. And have money left over for some more movies!
