Denafrips AVATAR CD Transport

I was interested in the Denafripts AVATAR top loading CD transport which at first sold for about $1200. However, the distributor Vinshine audio in Singapore has increased the price to US$1698 an increase over 72%. According to a friend Vinshine Audio claims repeated failure of the PHILIPS CDM4/19 transport. This seems strange since the CDM4/19 was PHILIP's most reliable and long lasting mechanism and many players using the PHILIPS are still working to this day. Denafrips claims they secured 3000 OEM units of CDM4/19.

That said, I don't think I want to take a chance and would prefer get a Cambridge CXC V2 for half of the price knowing that I can have two years warranty without the shipping cost to Singapore. The CXC is a pretty good player and I won't be surprised if it surpasses the AVATAR.

I read on one of the forums the AVATAR is pretty ordinary sounding from SPDIF and will only sound better from I2S connection.

I do own a Cambridge 851N Network streamer so getting a top loading player is for occasional use with a second system.
