RE: Audiophile Snake Oil

One time I bought a $1200 pair of interconnects (Transparent - used between pre and amp) because it "tamed" the high frequencies of a new pair of speakers. Just what the doctor ordered. Tried hard to spend less but couldn't come close. Couple of years later I sold the speakers and bought some new speakers. Tried some different interconnects and each of them sounded better than the Transparents. After some point it became part of the process to try different interconnects when new components came into the house.

Kind of a warning : once I brought home a CDP for demo. I put the player into the system after removing my CDP and was immediately struck by the sound improvement. This was a $3000 CDP triple the price of the CDP it replaced. Just on a whim I put the old CDP back in the system and it sounded almost as good as the new CDP. Which reminded me then as it is reminding me now the importance of disconnecting and reconnecting interconnects on a regular basis. It's like a free upgrade.
